Meet our Founder - Yasemin

The woman behind Flex & Flow Pilates ~ Meet Yasemin

Yasemin is the Founder & Owner of Flex & Flow Pilates. She manages all three of her Flex & Flow studios, so you’ll definitely see her teaching, and participating in classes across the studios. You’ve probably also chatted to her on the phone, via email or seen her on our socials – she’s always ready to welcome everyone with open-arms to the Flex & Flow family!

Yasemin describes herself as a whole-hearted advocate of the Pilates lifestyle. She’s super passionate about Pilates, and introducing Pilates as a lifestyle to everyone she meets (if you’ve met her, you’ll know!).

She has always been a lover of movement + fitness, and grew up playing soccer competitively, dabbled in dancing and taught group fitness classes (like Body Pump, and cycle) before discovering her passion for Pilates. As a former journalist, Yasemin spent most of her 20s juggling a 9-5 job while maintaining an interest and presence in the fitness industry. She worked as a personal trainer + fitness coach/instructor almost daily (before 9am and after 5pm on week-days while she juggled her two careers).

Her journey to establishing Flex & Flow Pilates began while Yasemin was on maternity leave following the birth of her first daughter, in 2017. Yasemin took a leap of faith and made the decision to leave the corporate world behind to pursue her dream of owning her own Pilates studio.

Starting small, Yasemin rented spaces within studios in the Northern and Western suburbs of Melbourne teaching Mat Pilates. Having created a small community of her own which she now wanted to see grow, by April 2019, Yasemin created the Flex & Flow Pilates brand and opened her first Pilates Studio in Ravenhall (close to suburbs she called home growing up in the Western Suburbs). It wasn't long before Yasemin knew she wanted to further grow her community and introduce Pilates to more people.

But in early 2020, as Yasemin was preparing to open her second studio location in Westmeadows and as the Ravenhall studio was just about to turn one, Flex & Flow Pilates temporarily closed its doors as a result of the global pandemic. Yasemin describes this time in her life as being one of the most challenging periods she has had to face both personally and in business. Yasemin grew a lot from the experience and the challenges she faced during that period only made her love and passion for Flex & Flow Pilates grow deeper, and cemented what she already knew – she absolutely loves the Flex & Flow community.

By the end of 2020, after 8 months of studio closure and a lot of "pivoting" to survive, Flex & Flow Pilates relocated the first studio from Ravnehall to Caroline Springs and opened a second studio in Westmeadows! In that time, Yasemin also welcomed her second daughter to the world.

Seeing the amazing, and positive impact, Flex & Flow was having on her community and with the love and support from the Flex & Flow Family, she was keen to keep expanding her community and spreading the positivity of Pilates. In 2021, Flex & Flow Pilates in Point Cook opened.

“In the toughest of times, Flex & Flow Pilates Studio was able to be the light and support system a lot of people needed. Seeing this positive impact we were having on our communities is what drove me to want to continue to grow Flex & Flow Pilates.

“I really believe in what we have to offer through the Pilates method of exercise, and lifestyle, that we can help empower so many people to move better and feel better both physical and mentally.

“It’s my goal to help empower as many people through Pilates as I can, with the help of my amazing team.”

As a business owner, head Pilates teacher, social butterfly and mother of two, Yasemin still tries to do at least 4 classes per week for her own fitness and wellbeing. She is proud of the community she has created, and loves being a Pilates Teacher and Mentor which allows her to share her knowledge and passion with other teachers and members alike.

"Joseph Pilates, the creator of Pilates, famously said "The whole country, the whole world, should be doing my exercises. They’d be happier.” and I absolutely agree!

Pilates has so many amazing benefits for the body and mind, and it really is for everybody! My goal was always for Flex & Flow Pilates to give more people a chance to try Pilates and reap all of its benefits. I want it to be a place where people come to enjoy movement while feeling completely comfortable to be themselves, a place that welcomes and celebrates everybody, no matter where they are on their own Pilates journey.

Flex & Flow gives me an opportunity to share my passion and ignite that flame for many others. It is my happy place and I hope that it is, and will be, for others too."
